Wedding Web SiteWedding Web Site

My friends asked me to make a web site for them that would allow them to email invitations to most of their friends and family (though they did send paper invites to people who don't use computers very much). We created a site that included:

  • a scanned image of the original (paper) invitation
  • interactive maps and directions to the wedding and reception (using Google Map)
  • an itinerary for the wedding and the reception, as well as the menu for the reception
  • a list of things to do in town, so that out of town guests would find the nice restaurants and entertainment options while they were visiting--the list included lists to all the web sites for those things to do
  • a photos page, which, after the wedding, included a slide show that incorporated flickr.com photos from friends and families
  • an RSVP page, which allowed guests to type in their responses--the page was scripted to email the guests' RSVP to the bride
  • a disposable email address just for the RSVP messages, so that the bride's personal email account wouldn't be overloaded

The entire web site is password-protected, so that the bride and groom's personal information is not public. The bride emailed their guests their usernames and passwords.

Note: The background photo used on my friends' wedding web site (the couple pictured above) was taken by Debbie Ohi, a freelance illustrator, writer, and photographer (and mutual friend).
