RSS is the abbreviation for Really Simple Syndication, which is a standard format web site creators use to make it easier for visitors to web sites keep up with new content. The typical use of this format is in news-based web sites and blogs.

Most modern web browsers display RSS feeds within the browser window, and allow for a bookmarked RSS feed to show how many new entries have been published on that web site since the user's last visit. Some email programs also display RSS feeds in the inbox, and other email programs display RSS feeds in a separate screen, like a newsreader.

Some web sites also incorporate news feeds from RSS publications into their pages. Here's an example of such a page, which incorporates news from my hometown, Buffalo, NY: RSS News - Buffalo, NY.
